Praying From Matthew Chapter 23
What a stern rebuke, O Lord, you gave the people regarding
the scribes and Pharisees.
You said, "Do and observe whatever they tell you. But don't do what they
do, because they don't do what they say. They tie up heavy loads that are hard to carry and put them
on people's shoulders, but they themselves aren't willing to lift a finger to
move them. They do everything to be observed by others."
Remove from my heart, Lord Jesus, any tendency to burden
rather than help others with spiritual requirements.
Set aside in me any desire to act so as to be seen and any
action that stands in conflict with the truth I profess and
proclaim.
1 Then
Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples: 2 "The scribes and the Pharisees
are seated in the chair of Moses.
3 Therefore do and observe whatever they tell you. But don't do what
they do, because they don't do what they say.
4 They tie
up heavy loads that are hard to carry and put them on people's shoulders, but
they themselves aren't willing to lift a finger to move them. 5 They do
everything to be observed by others: (Matt. 23:1-5,
